- Apprenticeship
- Learning a trade on the job beside an experienced worker, usually with modest pay from day one.
- Backend
- The part of a website users never see: where data is stored and rules are enforced.
- Backup
- A second copy of important files kept somewhere else, so nothing is lost if a device breaks.
- Cash flow
- The money coming in and going out of a business each week or month.
- Cold chain
- Keeping goods such as medicine or dairy cold from the moment they leave the store until they arrive.
- Credential
- The signed proof of what you finished in Miva, which an employer can check even with no internet.
- CV
- One or two pages listing your skills, training and work, used to apply for a job.
- Dosage
- How much medicine to take, how often, and for how long — always as written by the prescriber.
- Earthing
- A safety wire that sends stray electricity into the ground instead of through a person.
- Expiry date
- The last day a product is safe or effective to use; after it, remove the item from the shelf.
- Inventory
- Everything a business is holding to sell or use, counted and recorded.
- Inverter
- The box that turns the direct current from solar panels or a battery into the alternating current appliances use.
- Invoice
- A written request for payment listing what was sold, how many, and the total owed.
- Kilowatt-hour (kWh)
- The unit that measures energy used: one thousand watts running for one hour.
- Last mile
- The final step of a delivery, from the local depot to the customer's door.
- Margin
- What is left from a sale after costs — the real profit on each item.
- Multimeter
- A hand tool that measures voltage, current and resistance so you can find a fault safely.
- Phishing
- A fake message that pretends to come from a bank or company to trick you into giving a password or money.
- Post-harvest loss
- Crops that spoil or are damaged between harvest and sale — the biggest avoidable cost in farming.
- PPE
- Personal protective equipment: gloves, boots, eye and ear protection worn before work starts.
- Reconcile
- To compare your own records with the bank or mobile-money statement until both agree.
- Responsive design
- Building a page so it reads well on a small phone as well as a wide screen.
- Short circuit
- When current takes a wrong, direct path — it heats wires fast and can start a fire.
- Soldering
- Joining small electronic parts using melted metal that hardens into an electrical connection.
- Strong password
- A long secret, hard for others to guess, that is different on every account.
- Triage
- Sorting incoming problems so the most urgent or blocking one is handled first.
